1) ASK FOR COMMISSION AND/OR EQUITY DEALS

You are limiting yourself and the amount of money you can make by just accepting money up front.  I am a big believer in always betting on yourself.  There are 2 reasons for this.  The first reason is by putting skin in the game you are now directly involved financially throughout the project.  This forces you to raise your game.  The second reason is that choosing commission and/or equity over an up-front price massively increases the amount of revenue you can earn per project.  If you apply the other 5 tips in this article then the sky is the limit on how much revenue you can earn.

2) SHARE WHAT YOU ARE PROMOTING!

Too many athletes only use social media to promote and sell product.  The Best things in life are shared when people directly recommend them to other people!  Word of mouth marketing is the most effective form of marketing.  If you want to be a TRUE Hustler then you have to do things that don’t Scale!  Your friends and connections are far more likely to take your word on product recommendations than choose to purchase something else based on corporate advertisements and ad campaigns.

Truthfully, the best things in life are shared when people directly recommend them to other people! When you have a positive experience with products that work, it’s only natural to want to share your results with other people. The best things in life are shared by people talking to other people. When you have a positive experience with products that work, it’s only natural to share your results with other people.

According to Nielsen, 92% of consumers believe recommendations from friends and family over all forms of advertising.  Go with the probabilities, with every project you do take the time and effort to promote it to family and friends offline.

3) BE A DEMONSTRATION OF WHAT YOU ARE SELLING

Don’t just talk about it, be about it!  If you are promoting Creatine then be a demonstration of Strength and Power.  If you are promoting Athlete Reds then be a Representation of Health and Longevity.  There was a great philosopher in the 20th century named Ralph Waldo Emerson who said “Your Actions Speak so Loudly, I can’t hear your Words.”  If you can visually demonstrate the benefits of a particular product then your audience will believe that they can get the benefits of the product too.  Your actions speak way louder than your words when it comes to selling product.

4) BUILD DISTINCTIVE ELEMENTS OF YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

No matter how popular you are as an athlete and/or influencer you must understand that people are living busy lives.  This makes your TASK of getting attention very difficult.  This is one of the reasons why it is important to spend time building distinctive assets of your personal brand.  This assets can be things like logos, slogans and color combinations.  These assets are important because they allow consumers to recognize you and what you are communicating.  Distinctive, consistent icons and imagery allow you to noticed.  Really take some time to experiment with different elements, doing this will help you stand out in a crowded market place.

5) COLLABORATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

The #1 Factor that determines how much you sell is your brand reach.  Cross-promote, collaborate, hop on podcasts, get your name, image and likeness in front of as many new people as possible.  Your personal brand will grow with penetration more so than with loyalty.  Mass marketing is essential for both your personal brand maintenance and your brand growth.

6) HAVE A HOOK!

Start each interaction, video and/or post with a strong hook.  A marketing hook is a message or tagline that entices customers to take action.  Remember getting people’s attention is difficult and having a great hook helps solve this.  A hook is an interesting tease, a sample, a mental appetizer.  Use a hook to draw the audience in and then give them everything you got in terms of sales and presentation.
