Is Creatine Safe for Kids?

I am Big Believer that everybody should be taking Athlete Creatine.  Creatine has been proven to have significant performance benefits while also being protective for health and well being.  Creatine is beneficial to athletes, non-athletes, the elderly and it is also beneficial to young people.

Creatine is one of the most widely researched and safest supplements available which raises the question.

Why isn’t everybody taking Creatine?

IS CREATINE SAFE FOR KIDS

A number of sports science studies from across the World have looked at the benefits and safety concerns of Creatine for adolescents.  These studies have taken place in the United States, Brazil, Iran and the United Kingdom.

All of the studies found that Creatine was beneficial to adolescents' performance.

Adolescent athletes that took Creatine improved speed and power, time to exhaustion and work capacity.  Also while not directly related to performance one of the studies found that creatine supplementation may also be an effective strategy to support the rehabilitation of overuse-associated tendinitis in adolescent swimmers when combined with a targeted physical therapy program.

Notably, when indicated by the authors, no adverse events were reported in any of these studies.

Despite the data backing up Creatine as a wonder supplement it has been reported that adolescents use Creatine less frequently than multivitamins, protein powders, and energy powders.

THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A PLAN

While many middle school and high school athletes are 100% committed to practice and weight training they lack a purposeful nutrition and supplement strategy to support their training.  It is important to understand that training can only take you so far without a solid nutrition plan for growth and recovery.

BEST TIME TO TAKE CREATINE

Have your adolescent take creatine with either carbs or protein in order to raise insulin to optimize creatine uptake into the muscles. You can take creatine either pre- or post-workout, but it’s generally recommended to take it within one hour of exercise.  I have my 14 year old son KJ take Creatine post exercise.

MOST BIOAVAILABLE FORM OF CREATINE

Creatine powder is absorbed rapidly into the body compared to capsules which are not as easily absorbed.

IS CREATINE SAFE?

Creatine is absolutely safe.

IS CREATINE A STEROID?

Creatine is not a steroid.  It bears no relation to a steroid structurally or in its actions in the body.

THE STORE OF TWO EASIES

Jim Rohn is considered to be one of the best personal development teachers of the 20th century.  He had a great line where he talks about success in life comes down to the two easies, “It all comes down to a philosophical phrase: the things that are easy to do are also easy not to do. That’s the difference between success and failure, between daydreams and ambitions.”

If you are looking to optimize your adolescents health and improve their athletic performance then Athlete Creatine is an easy move you can make to get significant benefit.
